Helen Keller, who lived near Aspetuck Corners on the border of Easton and Weston was a wonderful author and amazing person despite being blind and deaf.

As a community we strive to follow her good deeds as she said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."

A Weston family tradition continues with the 26th annual Children’s Holiday Breakfast.  Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 6th as preparations are already underway.  The Weston Women’s League invites all crafters, artisans, and vendors to sell their goods at the Breakfast’s high-traffic Holiday Gift Boutique.

The 2009 event will take place between 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Weston Middle School, which will double as a winter wonderland and festive shopping bazaar.  Both Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus will be on hand for photo opportunities after families feast on a hearty pancake breakfast.  Family tickets are $25 in advance/$30 at the door, individual tickets are $8 in advance/$10 at the door, and admission is free for children under two years of age.  Tickets can be purchased by contacting WWL member, Kerry Scaramuzza, via kscaramuzza@gellerco.com.

The Middle School’s “old” gym will be transformed into the ultimate play space and Holiday Gift Boutique.  The younger set can enjoy games, crafts, and a Moon Bounce, while adults can embrace the holiday spirit by shopping for gifts.  Kids are also invited to buy presents for parents, relatives, and teachers.  “We expect hundreds of families to, once again, enjoy the Children’s Holiday Breakfast.  The League looks forward to welcoming the community to this time-honored and charitable event,” said CHB Co-chairperson, Stephanie Young.

Vendors in years past have showcased an array of goods, ranging from handmade ornaments to jewelry to unique handbags.  The 2009 Boutique promises the same excitement and includes vendors such as Carrie Wittenstein, founder of “Wouldn’t It B Nice?” – a line of clothing and accessories sporting inspirational phrases, like “B a friend™” and “B what makes life nice.™”

Crafters can set up on Saturday, December 5th and should arrive on Sunday by 8:45 a.m.  The cost per table is $40 and vendors are asked to donate 10% of their proceeds to the WWL’s fund-raising effort.  Boutique participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies to include cash boxes, calculators, pens, and the like.

The net proceeds of the day will benefit Kids in Crisis, Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP), and Weston Education Foundation.  Kids in Crisis will use the monies for the enhancement of their facility, ADAP’s funds will further substance abuse awareness, and Weston Education Foundation will use the League’s donation for one or more chosen grants.

The Weston Women’s League is also seeking sponsors for the Breakfast, with packages ranging from $50 - $500 plus.   For a Holiday Gift Boutique application, please contact Kim Forte at  kbforte@yahoo.com.  For a sponsorship brochure, e-mail Cheryl Bryant Komar at komar1@optonline.net.
